Tracy Nguyen
Esther Boyer College of Music, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA
After taking a gap year as a chemistry major, Tracy Nguyen transferred to Temple University to pursue her true passion in music. She will be completing her senior year at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance this fall, double majoring in music theory and bassoon performance. She grew up in the neighborhood of Olney and started in the Philadelphia School District playing clarinet in third grade before committing to bassoon in her junior year at Masterman High School. She currently studies with Michelle Rosen, principal bassoonist of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and formerly with Shirley Curtiss, well-known bassoon pedagogue and former director of the woodwinds program at Settlement Music School.
Ensembles she has performed in include Boyer College's Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Composer’s Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Early Music Ensemble on recorder and dulcian, and a number of woodwind chamber ensembles so far. She previously participated in Curtis Summerfest’s Chamber Music for Adults 2019, performed in Philadelphia Sinfonia's 2015-16 season, and toured with All-City Philadelphia's Italy tour as an alumnus. After graduating, Tracy plans to pursue a Master's degree to further her studies in bassoon while expanding her performance experience, with interest in teaching and exploring music theory studies.
